Savage Beauty: The Life of Edna St. Vincent Millay

Random House #ad - As a family, they were like real-life Little Women, with a touch of Mommie Dearest. Nancy milford was given exclusive access to Millay's papers, and what she found was an extraordinary treasure. Boxes and boxes of letter flew back and forth among the three sisters and their mother—and Millay kept the most intimate diary, one whose ruthless honesty brings to mind Sylvia Plath.

Her voice was likened to an instrument of seduction and her impact on crowds, and on men, was legendary. Written with passion and flair, Savage Beauty is an iconic portrait of a woman's life. Milford calls her book "a family romance"—for the love between the three Millay sisters and their mother was so deep as to be dangerous.

Savage Beauty: The Life of Edna St. Vincent Millay #ad - The first woman ever to win the Pulitzer Prize, Millay was dazzling in the performance of herself. Thirty years after the smashing success of Zelda, Nancy Milford returns with a stunning second act. Vincent millay, as flamboyant in her love affairs as she was in her art, was its heroine. Savage beauty is the portrait of a passionate, fearless woman who obsessed American ever as she tormented herself. If F.

The Collected Poems

#ad
Harper Perennial #ad - Pulitzer prize winner sylvia Plath’s complete poetic works, edited and introduced by Ted Hughes. By the time of her death on 11, February 1963, Sylvia Plath had written a large bulk of poetry. To my knowledge, she never scrapped any of her poetic efforts. So this book contains not merely what verse she saved, but—after 1956—all she wrote.

Ted hughes, from the Introduction. The end product for her was not so much a successful poem, as something that had temporarily exhausted her ingenuity. Her attitude to her verse was artisan-like: if she couldn’t get a table out of the material, she was quite happy to get a chair, or even a toy. With one or two exceptions, she brought every piece she worked on to some final form acceptable to her, rejecting at most the odd verse, or a false head or a false tail.
